Today we finished taking the pretest After this, we reviewed the Anticipation guide and analysis questions from Activity 85. Lastly, we completed Activity 86, where we took observations of different space objects and categorized them. We learned what an astronomer is, and how to distinguish between planets and stars.

Today we started the Exploring the Solar System Unit with Activity 85, and discussed the history of science .Students created a timeline using Student Sheet. 85.1 of important historical events in space exploration. Students completed the anticipation guide, as well as completed a pretest. Homework is analysis questions 1-3 ![]()

Today we presented our planet posters and shared notes with one another. There was no homework, other than to edit your concept map from analysis questions 1a if you did it incorrectly.
Joke: Q: How does the man-in-the-moon cut his hair? A: Eclipse it! Today students completed their planet posters and then began presenting them to the class. They were given a rubric to staple onto the back. Homework is to complete Analysis questions 1a and 1b. For 1a, you must create a vocabulary concept map. This is essentially a word web, showing me you know how all of the vocabulary is connected. Parents and Students- Please be aware that the unit test and lab write-ups will not show up on mid term grades, but they will be in the grade book soon. Your midterm grade is your grade prior to these assignments.
Today we completed Activity 84, and looked at data for 10 imaginary planets. Students worked in groups and calculated data such as year and day length for their planets. Students who were absent today can team up with their groups tomorrow to get filled in. We did not finish this activity, so there is no homework tonight. ![]()
Today was the unit test for the "Earth in Space" Unit. Students worked on finishing the glossary for the upcoming unit as well. Words students are to put in the glossary and define for the unit include: Spacecraft, astronomer, planet, star, Solar System, scale, astronomical unit, nuclear reaction, nuclear fusion, remote sensing, force, gravity, mass, weight
Today we completed Activity 83, comparing three fictitious places that used different types of calendars as a way of marking time. We weighed the pros and the cons, and did analysis questions 1-3 for homework. ![]()
Today we reviewed analysis questions 4-5 and from Activity 79 and reviewed the moon cycle. We the completed Activity 82, an activity that helps us see the relationship between the moon phases and tides. Homework is Analysis questions 1-3 for Activity 82. Question 3 will be graded tomorrow with the AD rubric. FIELD TRIP FORMS AND MONEY ARE DUE TOMORROW. ![]()

Today we learned about the phases of the moon and drew a diagram. I combined Activities 79-81., and homework was Act. 79 Analysis questions 4 and 5.
