Don't forget! We have parent/teacher conferences Monday and Tuesday. I will be in the cafeteria from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm, with a lunch break from noon to one, and dinner break from 4:45 to 6:00pm. Today we had fun dropping our egg "Mars lander" and recording our results. Students turned in their Mars lander packets as well as their lab notebooks. Today we spent class time finalizing our Mars Lander Egg Droppers for the final drop tomorrow. Student homework is to complete 2 trials at 6 meters, or 19.8 feet onto a hard surface before class tomorrow. Please remember to put the egg into a ziploc plastic bag. Lab notebooks are due tomorrow for inspection grading.
Eighth graders did not have a first and second. Today, as we watch a play from a visiting group in the gym. Third and fourth. Were able to work on their Mars landers. Tomorrow we will be using the entire class. To finish constructing our Mars landers. Student homework is to make sure they have all the materials they need for class tomorrow. We started off class by watching two youtube videos about the landing of the Mars Rover. This led us into a discussion about what would be necessary components of a lander to make a successful landing on Mars. Today we started designing our "Mar Lander", our contraption that each pair is designing and will drop on Friday with a raw egg on the inside. This drop will be our final drop- we will use the next to days to construct our landers with materials students bring from home. Students must do their first two trials from home. Homework tonight is to bring materials to build our landers. ![]()
Today we took the Solar System Unit Test. Students then used the remainder of classroom to create their glossary for the upcoming unit "Weather and Atmosphere." Homework is to finish defining the words in the glossary.
Today we used class time to work through the study guide a review for the test. Students peer taught one another about the different essential concepts. REMINDER: Test on Monday, and Act. 98 #2 (letter to National Council) is due at the beginning of the period, typed, one page, and double spaced)
Corny Joke: Q: What does a nosy pepper do? A: It gets jalapeño business. Today we finished poster presentations, and started Activity 98. Students pretend to work for NASA, and pick a mission in the book that they will propose to the National Council. Students use Student Sheet 98.1 to complete the activity, and #2 Analysis is due typed, one page, and double spaced on Monday. The Solar System Unit Test is on Monday. ![]()
I was out for Tuesday and Wednesday for teacher training. Students worked on their vocabulary posters, and then presented their posters.
Today students made a vocabulary poster/map using the vocabulary words from the unit. If you were absent, I have attached the rubric. There were not a lot of guidelines other than you must use all the words and show me you know how they are connected with one another. Have fun with creativity! This is due on Tuesday.
