Happy corny joke Friday! Today we took a lab notebook quiz in finished act We then discussed analysis questions one through six and if students did not finish they were assigned as homework. Please remember your lab write ups for activity 72 are due on Monday. This is a final draft. Corny joke: What kind of music do planets sing? Neptunes! Today was a fun lab. We learned how the Earth's tilt affects surface temperature by using solar lamps, solar power cells, and motor generators. We examined how different angles of the lamp (sun) affect the amount of energy that is transferred to the motor via solar energy. Homework: Analysis questions 1-6.
Today students read Activity 78 with their groups, and learned how the angle's of the sun affect seasons. Analysis questions 1-3 were assigned.
Today we reviewed the rubrics that I will be using to grade students work in class. We glued/taped these into the back of our lab notebooks. We also started to look at an example of a lab write up for my physical science class- the content is different but the layout and requirements are the same. Homework: Turn in Mt. St. Helen's field trip form and money, Final Lab write-ups due by Monday ![]()
Today we went to the computer lab and completed Activity 76, looking at how the suns rotation and revolution affect seasons. The procedure for how to investigate the website is in the textbook. We specifically collected data for Chicago, IL. Analysis questions 1-7 are homework. The link to the interactive website is: http://www.sepuplhs.org/middle/iaes/students/simulations/sepup_seasons5.html I have also attached the Mt. St. Helens permission slip if you lost/don't have your copy and still need to turn it in. ![]()

Today we finally had sun to complete Activity 72, Sun and Shadows! We were able to spend the class time outside collected data and measuring shadow lengths of our sun sticks. We then came back inside and calculated the mean shadow length for each class. On Monday, classes will be able to get the mean shadow lengths from all classes to finish the lab and create a lab write up.
No Homework! Today's Corny Joke: When do astronauts take a lunch break? At Launch time! (Ba dum chhh!) I was out today for training. With the guest teacher, students completed Activity 75, "Sunlight and Seasons." Students examined length of daylight and the position of the sun throughout the year. We made graphs to compare and contrast daylight ours and height of the sun over a two year period. Analysis questions 1-7 were homework. ![]()

Today was a late start day. We passed out permissions slips and information for the Mt. St. Helens field trip. Please have the permission slipped filled out and signed (front and back) with $15 and turned in no later October 4th. Parents- I will post a digital copy of these soon.
No homework I was out of the classroom today for training. With the sub, students read in groups Activity 74, and learned what effect the rotation of the Earth has on the way we measure time. We investigated time zones, and we also discussed how time zones came to be. Homework: Analysis Questions 1-6 ![]()
