Today in class we finished the final few minutes of Apollo 13. We used our observations of the successful landing of Apollo 13 to brainstorm what we would need to make a sucessful landing on Mars. I then gave a short lecture on the characteristics of Mars, and we watched some video clips the original Mars Lander. I then passed out a Mars Lander packet, as we will be building our own Mars Landers (with an egg inside). The homework for today is to bring in various recycled materials from home to class to start the building process tomorrow. Preferably, students should bring recycled material, such as paper towel rolls, packaging peanuts, bubble wrap, etc. I will be providing essential items such as string and tape, and the egg for the final drop. I have attached the powerpoint, videos, and Mars lander packet below.
