Today we reviewed Activity 62 concepts. Students do not need to type a full water story for Activity 62- A short paragraph story will suffice. The main thing I am checking for is that students understand HOW water transforms in the water cycle. We then moved on to Activity 63. In Activity 63 investigated properties of air, and then talked about what this implies about the air/atmosphere around us. Students will do analysis questions 1-4. #4 needs to be written in the notebook and will be checked tomorrow and entered into the grade book. Students can reference the Understanding Concepts rubric in the back of their lab notebooks to aim for a 3.25 (full point) response. ![]()

I was out today for curriculum planning. Today, with the help of the substitute, students completed Activity 62. During this activity students played a game that walked them through the water cycle. We will review these concepts tomorrow when I get back to the classroom! ![]()

Today students investigated how water reacts with different materials, simulating how ground water passes through gravel and sand. This was a lab activity. When students were done, they filled out their data table and completed Analysis questions 1-3 (Homework)
Today we learned about the transformations of water in the water cycle. Students started by making a concept map connecting words by giving as many examples as they could think of for the three physical states of water. Examples for solid include ice and snow, liquid could be rain, rivers, etc. Students then read Activity 60 in their textbook and completed Analysis #2. This is homework if students did not finish. We then watched a clip of the water cycle from the Magic School Bus. While this show was made for younger children, many students were familiar with parts of the water cycle, so I thought it would be a fun way to review some of the concepts. We did not watch the whole episode, though you are more than welcome to if it suits your fancy. ![]()
We started off class by checking Activity 59 homework for completeness. We then took our lab notebook quiz and graded them when we finished. This took the bulk of the class period. Some classes started Activity 60, however some did not. Therefore there is no homework over the weekend. The nine weeks is ending soon- please begin to catch up on late work and get a start on work due soon NOW! Have a great weekend! Today we learned about how different substances dissolve into different liquids. These observations made in Activity 59 helped us make connections for how different substances are dissolved into the Earth's water, and influences water density. Water density influences currents, which in turn influence climate. Student homework are analysis questions 1-4. NOTEBOOK QUIZ TOMORROW! ![]()
Today we began with a warm up, reviewing how latitude affects oceans, and how oceans affect climate. Today students read Activity 58 "Causes of Climate" and filled out a corresponding reading guide to discover how land forms, altitude, and large bodies of water affect climate. Homework is to do analysis 1-4. ![]()
Today in class we began by reviewing yesterday's work, and how latitude affects oceans temperatures. Today we did Activity 57, and learned about how ocean temperatures affect climate. Several students volunteered for extra credit to act out the role play in Activity 57. Students filled out the "Intra-Act Discussion" and completed Analysis questions 1-4. ![]()
Today we refreshed our brains on the heating and cooling of land and water. We then started Activity 56, where students learn how latitude affects ocean temperatures. Homework is to finish and turn in Activity 55 lab write up tomorrow. ![]()
